Antique Vintage Victorian Georgian Sterling Silver Neo Classical Estate Bracelet
Gram Weight: 60.4 Grams. Item Measurements: The bracelet measures 7.75" long and 1.5" wide. Closure/Clasp Type: The bracelet includes a slide on hooking clasp as well as the original safety chain. Notable Features: Victorian, Neoclassical, Hand-Chasing, 5 Panels that include a lion on a stand with a French Fleur De Lis, a shield/crest/coat of arms, a winged cherub playing a lyre, a cherub wrapped in a cloth, and St. George the Dragon Slayer on a horse slaying a dragon.
In between each panel are connector links with winged cherubs coming out of the top and bottom. This beautiful piece was made during the Victorian Period! This era is famous for its rare and elegant designs.
The name comes from the ruling monarch of the time, Queen Victoria. Neoclassical motifs used in the late 18th and early 19th century are predominantly classic with influences of architectural decorations. Pieces created during this time had a high level of symmetry and low-carved reliefs. Popular themes found in these pieces include rosettes, vases, urns, bows, hearts, portraits, and snakes.
The chasing technique is a very difficult silversmith process where the artist uses a nail-like tool and hammer to hand-etch patterns within the metal work. Only the best jewelers were trained in this challenging process. The band of the bracelet is ornate with both sides featuring hand-chased floral pattern designs.
